The site features a Q&A section (where dentists ask other dentists what to do); a Topics section, where any Implant related issue you can think of is categorized, described and in many cases solved; a Products section, which features everything you’d ever want to know about the most recent advances in dental implant technology; a Courses section, which includes information about hundreds of continuing education courses about Dental Implants; and more.

The site also offers a Patient Implant Center, which provides answers to dozens of dental implant related questions regularly asked by patients. Certainly it is a great source of information for Orlando and Central Florida dental implant users.

 Improved speech

9) Reduced chance of loss

10) Bone growth

All of these are great reasons to choose dental implants, and I always offer them as a potential solution to my Orlando customers. What has to also be factored in though is cost. A mouth full of dental implants will set you back a tidy sum, and in these tough economic times it is sometimes necessary to make tradeoffs. Dentures are a great option for many of my Orlando and central Florida clients who don’t want to take on additional debt or break the bank.

Glenn Wolfinger of the Pi Dental Implant Center in Pennsylvania has written and published a thoughtful list of reasons why many dental patients suffering from missing or lost teeth might choose dental implants over dentures. The provided list is a good one and might be of special interest to patients in Orlando, Florida, keeping in mind that there are still reasons to consider dentures and/or mini-dental implants.

Dr. Wolfinger’s list includes the following reasons to choose dental implants over dentures:

1) Improved appearance

2) Improved confidence

3) Comfort and convenience

4) Durability

5) Improved eating

6) Improved taste

7) Improved nutrition and health

8 ) Improved speech

9) Reduced chance of loss

10) Bone growth

In his article, he provides more detail about each item on his list.

There are a lot of great reasons to choose dental implants over dentures — but there are also reasons to choose dentures over dental implants. Cost is a major factor — a full set of dental implants could set you back $30,000 or much more (depending on the types of surgical procedures that are required) while dentures will cost considerably less. Plus there is the fact that dental implants do require multiple surgical procedures over a period of months.

Mini-dental implants offer another option that many patients are seriously considering these days. They cost a lot less, and mitigate many of the negatives commonly associated with denture-based solutions and are readily available in the Orlando area from any number of practitioners.

A recent Millennium Research Group report indicates that guided surgery technology will be used in almost 25% of dental implants. Guided surgery (as it applies to dental implants) uses digital x-rays combined with specialized software to help the dentist to better visualize and plan the placement of dental implants within the patient’s mouth. It is also used in drilling to ensure that the dentist knows exactly where they need to place the dental implant.“Guided surgery technologies are gaining in popularity because they help to remove some of the uncertainties and risks associated with a dental implant procedure,” says Chris Shutsa, Senior Analyst at Millennium Research Group. “Using guided surgery, implantologists can more carefully identify anatomical structures that could potentially complicate a dental implant placement procedure. Accordingly, clinicians can better plan the procedure.”

Using guided surgery, surgeons are able to create an exact, detailed plan for the surgery, including the best spots to make incisions, the optimal path to the targeted area, and even strategize in advance about critical structures that need to be avoided. It allows sugeons to view the human body in real-time 3D and is especially useful in dental implant procedures.

It is reasonable to expect that Orlando patients will soon have access to guided surgery technology for dental implants from a variety of providers.

Mini-dental implants require less surgery and work with dentures to create a much better experience than dentures alone at a cost much lower than that of regular dental implants. In this article, a Stanford, CT dentist describes the potential benefits of mini-dental implants.

According to Stanford, CT dentist Dr. Jack DeGrado, “these mini-implants will require less surgery than regular implants. They will also be more affordable for people, which are two major things patients are looking for.”

Mini-dental implants are metal posts that are surgically positioned in the jawbone beneath the gum. The top of the posts affix to your dentures, which cause them to stay firmly in place.

The installation of dental implants requires only one surgery, unlike regular dental implants which can require several operations over a period of months. Dr. DeGrado likens the installation of mini-dental implants to getting a filling.

Mini-dental implants cost as little as $2,000 — a significant savings over the cost of regular dental implants which can cost tens of thousands of dollars.

A number of Orlando and central Florida area dentists (include my practice) offer dental implants. They’re definitely worth considering if you’re on a budget and want a new solution to the challenges of loose dentures.

In the unfortunate event that someone were to lose a tooth or several teeth, he or she now has the opportunity to recover those teeth by several means of restoration or replacement. Innovations in technology combined with medical research has allowed people to obtain a completely natural, wholesome look no matter what their oral situation might be, and presents this possibility in two fundamentally different ways; a person who wants to reclaim lost teeth can opt for either dentures or implants.

Both of these choices are generally excellent and present a great way to recover oral functionality and a brilliant, enduring smile that, taken together, create a totally natural appearance and sense of behavior. However, there are crucial distinctions between dentures and implants that, along with a persons particular circumstances, will factor largely in determining exactly what kind of solution you will obtain. Therefore it is important for you to know these differences so you can make the right choice for your tooth restoration or replacement needs.

What are these differences and how do they affect my choice?

Dentures are a type of prosthetic device that essentially replace the teeth in your mouth in a convenient and affordable way. The most widely recognized type of tooth replacement, dentures give people who have lost teeth the opportunity to improve their quality of life immensely by restoring their abilities to eat and speak, as well as reclaiming a natural appearance.

Basically, dentures come as the first recommended choice by dentists for those who have significant bone loss or some other particular medical condition that prevents the successful implementation of an implant. They’re also an ideal choice for those people who desire an affordable solution that most likely is covered by their insurance and gives them a promising relief from the burden of lost teeth. Essentially speaking, dentures are safe, convenient, and don’t require surgery, making them suitable for everyone who desires a chance at s

Keep in mind, however, that dentures require adjusting one’s lifestyle to suit their use, which includes incorporating the proper care and maintenance that both the dentures and your gums will need. You should consider that you’ll be taking them out regularly when relaxed at home to give your gums a rest and that you should be soaking your dentures on a nightly basis.

What about implants?

Representing the latest in dental technology and innovative design, implants are a premier solution for obtaining not just a replacement for lost teeth but also a completely practical restoration of their appearance and functionality that looks and feels entirely natural. They give a person a great alternative to dentures that, while fairly expensive, is every bit like their original teeth. Nevertheless, they require particular oral conditions including a proper amount of bone in the jaws besides good oral health.

Dental Implants are a great solution to claim a dental replacement that is, for all intents and purposes, identical to your original teeth. Be that as it may, your dentist will inform you of their cost as well as that of the procedure to install them, which will admittedly come as a shock to some people. Being very advanced in design and requiring sophisticated surgical procedures to install, dental implants can cost upwards around the thousands of dollars. Unfortunately, almost every form of dental insurance doesn’t cover the cost of implants, citing them as cosmetic surgery.

Furthermore, dental implants require a person to possess relatively good oral hygiene, which includes a lack of smoking, drinking, and no diseases. Also, children and pregnant women are excluded due to the volatile nature of their bones during their developing years. Fortunately, those will fragile or small jawbones can get a bone graft to adjust their mouth accordingly to suit dental implants.

It’s a choice about convenience, comfort, and sensibility

Dentures and dental implants, regardless of their differences, offer a timeless value for what they provide. The average person today can easily find a qualified dentist who can best address her or her needs while presenting one of these solutions to recover teeth. In the end, whether you get dentures or implants, you will see that you’ll have gotten a great remedy identical to your original teeth, making the choice a wonderful example of a win-win situation.

An article in New York’s Newsday says that the New York State legislature is considering a bill that would require dentists to disclose to their patients the sources/manufacturers of their dentures, dental implants, crowns and other dental prosthetics. The bill, written by assemblyman Rob Walker, was created in the wake of recent concerns about materials sourced from China.

If the bill passes, dentists in New York will have to notify customers where the their dentures, dental implants and other prosthesis were made. the National Association of Dental Laboratories estimates that 15 to 20 percent of all dental prostheses are outsourced to other countries. Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration inspects less than 1 percent of restorations sourced from other countries such as China, India, Turky, the Philippines, Mexico, Eastern Europe, etc.

DentalEconomics.com has posted an interested article about dental implants which describes the importance of patient education. However, it also includes a few interesting statistics.

Nearly seven in 10 americans between the ages of 35 to 44 have lost at least one tooth due to an accident, gum diseas, or tooth decay.

by age 74, more than 25% of American adults have lost all of their permanent teeth.

One to three percent of implants will not take hold.

The article also discusses a variety of factors the patient should consider when pursuing dental implants, such as how there are a variety of different dental implant technologies/options to choose from, and that some paths may be more successful than others for a particular individual.

Portuguese scientist J.D. Santos has recently completed a study of a new synthetic bone material which, when applied to titanium dental implants, appears to accelerate bone growth improving the odds of dental implant success.

His team experimented with coating titanium implants with “Bonelike”, a synthentic material. X-rays before and after the implants showed bone growth around the implants and no bone loss in surrounding regions of the jaw.
