An inventor from Clio, South Carolina has developed a new type of denture that inproves the user’s ability to taste while wearing dentures. It eliminates the discomfort and gagging sometimes associated with dentures, minimizes bad breath, and can be worn during sleep. The inventor developed the new denture in an effort to eliminate his own frustrations with dentures. His product, called the “Smart Teeth” is not yet commercially available.

Elena Conis has written an interesting article for the Los Angeles Times in which she discusses the history of bad breath. The Egyptians were the first to come up with the breath mint. The Chinese were the first to brush their teeth in order to eliminate bad breath. Breath fresheners (called cachous) became “must have” items in the 1800s.
